R.J. SEESE DISCLAIMER

I do not have the credentials to offer automotive advice.  The modification experiences that follow, and any I might offer on this web site in the future, explain how I chose to approach a modification I wanted to make to my personal car.  I am not suggesting that anyone else make this modification to his or her vehicle.  In the event anyone chooses to accept the responsibility of initiating a similar vehicle modification, they should do so with the understanding it could result in undesired damage to their vehicle and could void the warrantee provided by the vehicle manufacturer.  In addition, I wish to point out that undertaking any vehicle modification without proper knowledge, experience, tools, and safety equipment can result in personal injury.

SHIFT KNOB REPLACEMENT
By Robert J. Seese

APPLICATION:
My car is a 1996 V-6.  In so far as I know, the shift knob on all '94 up Mustangs is threaded identically.

TOOLS REQUIRED:
None.

TIME REQUIRED:
This job can be done in a couple of minutes.

COST OF THIS PROJECT:
There are a multitude of shift knobs on the market.  I wanted the leather Cobra type with the embossed shift pattern.  I paid $35.95, but bought when the item happened to be on sale.  The regular price was about ten dollars more.

WHERE TO GET THE PARTS:
I purchased my shift knob at the Steeda Mustang modification facilities in Pompano Beach, Florida (954-960-0774).

WHY MAKE THIS MODIFICATION?
Strictly for looks and a nice feel when you grab the knob to shift.

WHAT I ACCOMPLISHED:
The shift knob looks much better than the stock plastic job.

HOW I COMPLETED THE MODIFICATION:
This is a no brainer.  Unscrew the old knob and install the new one making sure to snug it to the point the shift pattern is properly positioned.
