Ohio window tint laws.

I dont seem to understand this tint thing very well. I called the DMV home office and Columbus asking about tint laws, they said 50% tint was the max allowed by law. But several tint shops here advertise 20% and 38% and claim them to be legal?? 20% and 38% would be tinted more than 50% right?? 50% tint would mean that 50% of light shines through right?? and 20% means only 20% of light would shine through. I used search but didnt really find what i was looking for. Is 50% even worth getting, ive seen 35% on a few cars and it wasnt very dark at all. I dont want to waste money on 50% if im not even gonna be able to tell they are tinted??? And i dont want to break the law, because the cops in my city are hardcore when it comes to traffic laws. I know this is probaly a tired subject, but i was wanting to get my car tinted on Wed or Thur. this week, and need some advice. TX.

50% is nothing, don't waste your money. I was going to get my windows tinted, but decided not too because the **** cops were I live find any excuse to pull you over. What you should do is just ask people that have there windows tinted, and see if the cops ever enforce the tinted windows. Some places never look for it.
