Conclusion

K&N filters flow substantially more than Spectre air filters of similar dimensions under similar conditions. It makes you wonder about the actual performance of any air filter supplied with a cold air intake kit.

Peak MAF readings @ WOT:

-895 for K&N
-868 for Spectre

That is a difference of almost 5% in readings. However, the MAF signal is not linear with respect to air flow. It gets less sensitive as flow rate increases. Hence, the difference in peak air flow is > 5%.

Here's a link that tells more about the MAF
http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h34.pdf

How was this done?
- 2001 Ford Mustang 3.8L 5spd
- monitored with SCT Livewire for MAF counts
- Cold air intake with 4" pipe to fender-mounted air filter
- K&N filter vs Spectre 4" clamp on air filters
- Peak WOT MAF readings were found near 5500 rpm with either filter

Most forums say that all air filters are the same. These results challenge that notion.

I came across a problem that I'm sure almost everyone has with aftermarket headers, an exhaust leak, its causing a clicking sound on BOTH sides of my headers going to my engine, ive tightened all the bolts to the point where they wont budge, but i can still here the air puttering through, anyone got any ideas on how to stop this without going fast and annoyed route of just pouring jb weld all over the thing. I installed all the correct gaskets.

I wouldn't mind it, if i didn't hear puttering as a i drove...

I’ve always loved mustangs and finally got one. Now I don’t know much about cars, just the basics. When it comes to performing mods were I am lost. I have installed CAI’s because it’s fairly easy. I wan’t to continue doing my own mods and saving the money. But I am lost with exhaust systems. I’ve been looking at the Mack Performance Cat Backs and there at a good price, and they look like they go connected to the cats with nothing else needed. Where I am lost is with all this Y’s and H’s. The Mac Performance Cat Backs I have seen don’t come with neither. I have a 2002 Mustang V6, the exhaust from the manifolds back I notice that the exhaust comes out from both sides down with separate pipes to the cats down to the 2 mufflers then after the mufflers they go to a y pipe to one pipe and out to the rear.

Now my question is, when installing the Mac Performance Cat Backs is necessary to have the Y or the H pipe or can I just install it to the cats down to the rear with installing the Y pipe and H pipes?

Thanks

It does it at idle and while driving. The A/C and heat work and feel good, but I can not uderstand why it does that, is there to much air going to the pcv, or Idk any thoughts and suggestions or ideas would be great! Thanks!

So i was wondering what would give me the best sound with my mustang. Im looking for a deep, loud, aggressive sound i know my car wont ever sound like a v8 but the closes to it would be cool. Also i do wanna keep my stock manifolds so basically what im asking is what setup can best give me the sound im looking for like what mufflers should i use and should i go true dual and should i get a h pipe or x pipe or go divorced duals?
