If I were to make my own exhaust....

Ill get strait to the point. If I cut my exhaust at the y-pipe and weld in dual exhaust (friend of mine can weld), how would i go about getting the pipes over the axle? Sorry if this question is a repost, but a search yielded no results. Thanks

Jack the car by the body. The axle will hang down, giving you some more wiggle room.

Those over the axle pieces would be very hard to make yourself. I'd just order some mandrel bent pieces online and weld them in if I were you.

Trying to weld up a bunch of madrel bent pieces is a real big PITA and really not worth it.

You can go to any napa or other parts place that sells walker/dynomax and buy just the dual tail pipes for about what you would spend on mandrel bends.

As far as getting them in over the axle, very few ready made pipes will require you to do more than jack up the body as high is it will go and let the axle hang to be able to work the pipe in. You may have to twist it around and push some but it will go.

Have a shop (small, local shop) take 2.5" pipe and bend it making you some custom tailpipes. It doesn't cost much.

Honestly, I would just do everything up to the muffler and take it to a shop to have them do it. It really is a huge pain to do and not worth the hassle to try to get the tips to line up right and have enough clearance around everything.

Regular muffler shop bent pipes (crush bent) suck.

I would also suggest a ebay search for a cat-back, that's where I got mine and it was only about $225 shipped.

it will fit if you change the hangers near where the tips go.

79-97 use hangers that are perpendicular with the tips.
98-04 use hangers that run parallel with the exhaust tips

the rear hangers are very easy to change

i can weld my own hangers lmao, but looks like NorthWest3.8 is interested so he can take em. jus saw it and had to ask, ill be going with MAC catback unless the shop can do it cheaper, im not doing any performance mods since i got 140k miles, just exhaust, lowering springs, 4.10 welded spider gears (kinda a performance mod i guess, just no engine) for the true posi and good launches if i feel like messin around at a light
