How do I disable the PATS in my mustang?
I just got a 1998 Mustang, 3.8, auto trans, and I would like to disable the PATS in it. How can this be done? Is there some software and laptop hook up I can get and do it myself?

You will have to have a tuner send you a custom tune or youll have to take it to a dealership to have it removed.

New to Board, do you know how the dealer can disable PATS? I had my '97 to the dealer to program a key and they couldn't. Didn't say anything about Disabling PATS. (Can't drive car )
Thanks, Chris

Any ford dealer should be able to disable PATS. If you google "Disabling PATS." theres alot of discussions about it too.

I have been searching for weeks and can't find anyone who has had a dealer disable PATS. The only way I have found to do it without a working key is with a hand held tuner. I am hoping someone can give some advise so i don't have to buy a tuner just to disable PATS.

...that sounds odd, I know of someone from the mustang club of Denmark, had his disabled at a Bilia dealers workshop here in Denmark, so it sounds weird if they cant do it "overthere". But okay then, I guess you are down to a tuner then.

Thanks for the reply, Should someone at the dealer know how to do this and how long should it take ?
When the tried to program a key, they he assigned what looked like the newest youngest Tech they had .
I called another dealer farther away when i was looking for someone to program the key and the service manager wasn't sure they could do it and quoted me 1 1/2 hrs just to try!
