ok i gusses you dont grasp what i said very well.

what i am trying to get at more or less is that would SOMEWHAT bald tire like the eagle gas be better for getting more dry traction.

heres what i think once the treds are wore down there is more rubber on the street thus getting more rubber to the street whould result in more tracton in dry.i could be way off base  here and i probaly am i just wanted to see what others thought
 So fuc off

i would never put a bald tire on the front...if it blows u want it to blow in the back not the front..most the time in thr front if your going say 55 it will make you loose controll..that is what happened to my old car..the tire blew in the front and shot me in a ditch...

Lets make the advice even better... no bald tires anywhere.  I was driving my dads Taurus that had slightly bald tires - still looked like they could give another 5k miles easily.  Well, I was wrong and on the highway a good 12" x 3" patch of tire ripped off and I was driving on the steel belts!  Well thats scary **** b/c I didnt pull ove or notice until I got home.  Its very easy to lose control no matter where the tire is (although what dusty said is true - a blow out in the rear is a little safer than the front).

A bald tire is nothing like a drag slick, if thats what you are comparing it to. its the most dangerous thing you can do next to driving on a donut at 90mph, if you blow a tire, theres a good chance you will get injured, and if you are on the highway, theres a good chance youll lose control and total your stang and you may die.

being safe is the first thing you do when driving ANY vehicle.

ok ok i will try and make this a bit more clear.
i know its nothing like a slick.
lets say i am raceing on DRY pavment in a 1/4 race. would i get better grip with a tire with a little less tred, the tire still has some tred but not a whole lot.  i realize that not tred is bad for safty and not good to drive.  can some one please just aswer the question at had

o wait never mind i think ya  guys did;D

I may be wrong on this, but the treads also has a second use... cooling down the tires.  Feel the tires after a drive and you can imagine how hot it gets.  The treads allow air to circulate round the tire and helps cool it down (pretty much like cooling fins on your Pentium/AMD chip). Once the treads are worn down, the tire does not get sufficient cooling, it overheats and the air pressure goes up until it blows.

Does all this makes sense?

One more "adult type" statement.. dont think that even in a 1/4 mile race you would be safe riding on a bald tire.  One blow and you could easy loose control... smash into a parked car or pedestrian (if you are in a street race) or even vere and smash into the car you are racing.  Needless to say you have to repair you vehicle, plus damage caused to others.

Now I will answer the question you requested.  A stock vehicle tire have many grooves which reduce tire contact with the ground surface.  These "grooves" in most cases allow rain to channel through the tire for added traction in bad weather conditions.  If you have a "bald tire" such as a slick, you are increasing your surface contact and therefore in dry weather, you are increasing you traction.  Of course in wet weather you are all over the road with close to "0" traction.
