Well i can give you the really basic things, such as the engine, tranny, 8.8" rear end, ecu, etc.
The best thing you could do is get it all out of a low milage wreck off ebay or something, that will save you ALOT of money.

the best and most problemless solution in swapping a v6 car to a v8, would be to locate a donor car with the correct wiring harness, drivetrain and fuel componants and then just transplant them into the v6 body.
this method is not only less of a headache, but more cost effective in the losng run.
you would not have to buy parts individually, as we all know, individual parts cost more than a packaged deal. also, it could be very hard to find some items and could set you back a lot of time in parts hunting.
buy a wrecked GT and do a transplant. thats the easiest way. or trade in your 6 for an 8.
then again, there is always the carbed route. cut out the EFI system and EEC system and go carbed and it would be much easier. then again you have some performance issues that could limit your power. but if you do it right, and get the right parts and engine, you could have a very beastly carbed roots blown v8 in a new model v6 body.
now that would be a sight!

to keep it street legal if you do a donor car it has to be an engine from the same year or newer as your car. Carbed applications would net you some fines when you go to get the car inspected.

why would you want to convert a 6 in to an 8? is that a lot of work, why not just sell the 6 and put the money towards a v8?
Unless you are dropping in a Boss 429 or something big, i wouldnt even bother with the conversion. Or if you are just going to do it as an hobby...
I wanted to convert mine to a v8 but i figure the time and money that i put in to it, i can buy a low milage vert cobra.
There are also magazines that sell Cobra engines+tranny combos, with VERY VERY low mileages for around $3-$4k, i believe i saw them on Fast Fords and Muscle Mustangs or something. They really have good deals at some places. Thats what i wanted to do for mine, but then i found a good deal on a cobra...
Good luck my friend! and welcome!

sell your 2001 v6 for 9,000 and buy a 00 gt for $1,000 more and put v6 badges on it and save about $4,000 in labor and parts.

what about insurance, its cheaper on a v6. Even if you put the V8 in the car the insurance company can't charge ya any more since the value of the car does not go up.

4v 4.6L or i wouldnt waste the time. a 2v 4.6L isnt worth the trouble. expensive to mod and won't be alot of HP.
spend the money on a turbo kit and make 80-100rwhp more than the bolt-on 4.6L.

Well i only did a quick read through what every else said...but if you put a v8 in to your v6 body you can run into a few big problems. most states you have to do paper work for a motor swap cause emmisions... motor must meet year of car or newer standards... vin. verification, if you sell your car and they do a car fax report your car will be considered salvaged as to currant goverment standards, especaily if the donor car was totaled... the cost, if you go with a used motor who knows how the last guy treated it, was he an 18 year old race car wannabe, you can get every thing you need to do it for around $2000-$2500 used but if the motor is bad thats a good $1000 to rebuild plus any other thing that could be worn out. i live in new hampshire and i see 01-03 gt for $8500-$11000 all day long. The best bet is to sell and buy. Oh yea and when you change out the gauges you will also create a oddometer descrepencie....

...or you can say FTL if you don't have emissions. Swap the drivetrain without changing any VIN or having any kind of inspection. Change the guages out for a set that is close to your Odometer and be done with it. Sell your car an buy another car sucks, because you didn't have a payment before and now you have one.
I guess you would say that I am PRO-SWAP.

Trying for myself
Thanks for keeping this tread alive or should i say reviving it. I live in japan and came across a 96 Cobra with front fender/wheel/kmember damage. Asked the guy how much he wanted for it. He told me 20,000....that's YEN which equates to about $220, so i bought it. next step find a 1999 to 2004 V6 for a steal. Mission accomplished. picked up a 2000 for $4000. now it's time to get to work. I'll keep you posted and post picks of before, during and after.

03 V6-V8 swap
Yeah I'm looking into doing a swap to mine as well as supercharging it. Or I might just put a turbo on my V6. I'm not really sure.....But First I'm going to put a dual exhaust on it, Borla. I'm tired of people saying V8 swaps are so difficult, there are difficult ways to do it but there are also pretty simple ways of doing it as well. I would suggest going to a trusted car shop and talking to somone who actually knows what they are talking about. My brother owned a shop where he customized a lot of different cars but I learned a lot from my dad.... but yeah just talk to a few people and make sure you get the same answers before you start doing something the wrong way and screw up your car =]. Hope your swap goes well =]
