Installing Cobra taillights (99-04)

From 3.8Wiki

Contents

[edit] What this accomplishes

Your stock harnesses will have their pigtail cut off with my install. Once done, you will wire up your old pigtails with the new 99/01 Cobra pigtail, enabling you to have working Cobra taillights on your car.

[edit] Parts Needed

- 99/01 Cobra taillights with the correct harnesses

- New flasher (Standard # is EFL4). This is no special flasher--lots of Fords use it.

[edit] Tools Needed

- 11mm Socket

- Ratchet

- Electrical Tape

- Wire Cutters

- Solderless butt connectors (optional)

[edit] Instructions

1. Unbolt stock taillights

2. Unplug them and cut off their pigtails

3. Cut off the pigtails on the cobra taillights

4. Wire the Cobra tails with the stock pigtails. Every wire will match color for color except you will have a solid green wire left over. Install them.

5. Run a wire from each solid green wire to the solid green wire that feeds the 3rd brake light (behind the driver side "trunk molding").

6. Under the dash, replace the stock flasher with the new one

7. Pull the driver side kick panel and find a gray harness with a black pigtail plugged into it. Cut the solid green wire (pin 12). This disables the brake signal interrupt.

(This harness may be near the steering column, under the dash, in some models.)

You're done!
